‘Captain America: Civil War’ is 2016’s Biggest Movie Worldwide

It was only released two weeks ago, but Captain America: Civil War has already become the highest-grossing movie of 2016 worldwide.

The latest film in Marvel’s cinematic universe earned $10 million on Wednesday, bringing its worldwide total to $981.9 million. This amount now surpasses Disney’s Zootopia, which grossed $971 million. The third biggest movie of the year is Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with $871 million.

It is projected that Captain America: Civil War will reach $1 billion this weekend, which will make it the 25th movie to do so. It will also be the sixth superhero movie to hit that mark, joining The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Dark Knight.

Domestically, Captain America: Civil War is trailing behind The Jungle Book, Batman v Superman, Zootopia, and Deadpool for being the biggest movie of the year. The highest grossing film in the U.S. so far this year is Deadpool with $362.6 million. Currently, Captain America: Civil War has raked in $310.5 million.
