Brad Pitt will produce and star in the upcoming film The Operators, which follows the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal, the former commanding general of international and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan.
The film is based on the late Michael Hastings’ book The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan, which is based on Hastings’ article published in Rolling Stone in 2010 titled, “The Runaway General.”
The article claims McChrystal and his staff openly criticized White House administration officials, the president and his advisers. The publishing of “The Runaway General” led to McChrystal being fired by Barack Obama and replaced with General David H. Petraeus, but earned Hastings the George Polk Award. Hastings, 33, died last summer in a car crash.
“The Operators” will be written and directed by Australian director David Michod. There are no specific dates for the film’s production or release yet.
