Box Office Results: Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful Takes #1

This weekend’s box office giant was Walt Disney Picture’s Oz the Great and Powerful.  The film, a prequel to the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz,  earned over $80.27 million at the box office this weekend.  Disney’s Oz tells the story of how carnival magician Oscar Digs (James Franco) arrives in the Land of Oz to become the great Wizard of Oz.

Warner Bros’ Jack the Giant Slayer earned $10.02 million at the box office, a drop of 63.2% from last week.  After two weeks at the box office the film has earned over $43.81 million.  The film’s budget was $195 million.

Universal Pictures’ comedy Identity Thief starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman came in third place with a $6.31 million box office weekend gross.  The film is a box office hit, earning $116.53 million after five weeks in theaters.

Film District’s Dead Man Down starring Colin Farrell, Summit Entertainment’s Snitch starring Dwayne Johnson, and Relativity’s 21 & Over were all in the $5 million range earning $5.35 million, $5.10 million, and $5.05 million, respectively.

  10. The Last Exorcism Part II – $3.12 million
