Universal Pictures has claimed the No. 1 and No. 2 spots at the box office for the second week in a row, with “Ride Along” and “Lone Survivor.”
The buddy-cop comedy “Ride Along,” set a huge record last week, earning $48.6 million at the box office, the largest release for the month of January. This week the film, starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, grabbed the top spot at the box office once again, taking in $21.2 million in its second weekend.
The Afghanistan war film “Lone Survivor” remained stationary this week, following behind at No. 2 with $12.6 million in its fifth week at the box office. The film starring Mark Wahlberg has a cumulative total of $93.6 million and is expected to reach the $100 million later this week.
This marks the first time a studio has held the top two weekend slots for two weekends in a row in nearly 20 years. The last to do so was Warner Bros. when it led the box office with “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” and “On Deadly Ground” in February of 1994.
