Furious 7 just can’t be beat!
The Universal blockbuster landed at the top spot with $18.3 million at the box office this weekend. It has become the first film to come in first for four consecutive weekends since 2012’s The Hunger Games.
With Avengers: Age of Ultron debuting next weekend, which is expected to earn more than $200 million, it is likely Furious 7 will be defeated in its fifth weekend. Currently, Furious 7 has collected $320.5 million domestically and $1.32 billion worldwide, earning more than Disney’s Frozen ($1.27 billion).
Coming in second on the charts is Kevin Jame’s Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, with $15.5 million in its sophomore weekend. The comedy sequel, which cost $30 million to produce, has accumulated $44 million domestically.
“It’s such a sweet hold when you only drop 35 percent on a film in its second week,” said Rory Bruer, Sony’s distribution chief. “It shows the mettle of the picture. Families and young teens are really really embracing the movie.”
Meanwhile, Lionsgate/Lakeshore’s newcomer Age of Adaline debuted with a decent $13.4 million from 2,991 theaters. The romantic fantasy, starring Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman, Kathy Baker, Ellen Burstyn and Harrison Ford, follows the story of a woman who suffers an accident that keeps her eternally 29 years old.

Audience members, who were 75 percent female and 58 percent over the age of 25, gave the film an A minus CinemaScore, while critics gave it a 53 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Our audience will remain loyal to the film,” said Fay. “The great news is that movies [that] play to female audiences, particularly older female audiences, hang around in the marketplace for a long time.”
Following in fourth and fifth place at the box office is the Fox’s Home and Universal’s Unfriended, earning $8.4 million and $6.2 million, respectively. The animated feature has accumulated $153.8 million domestically, while the latter horror flick rounded out to $25.2 million domestically.
