After nine years, Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne is back!
Universal’s Jason Bourne is eyeing the top spot at the box office, expecting to debut with $55 million-plus from 4,026 theaters.
“As the character that catapulted the star into the box office stratosphere, the Bourne brand remains a strong and compelling attraction to moviegoers looking for an action movie with brains as well as brawn at the summer box office,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst with comScore.

The latest film from the franchise, with Paul Greengrass back on board to direct, is about the former CIA operative who is drawn out of hiding to uncover hidden truths about his past. Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel, Julia Stiles and Riz Ahmed also star.
The weekend’s other newcomer is STX Entertainment’s Bad Moms, which is pacing to gross $33 million for the weekend from 3,215 theaters.
The R-rated comedy, directed and written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, and follows a trio of overworked and under-appreciated moms who are pushed beyond their limits and ditch the responsibilities for a jolt of long overdue freedom, fun, and comedic self-indulgence.
Bad Moms stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Christina Applegate, JAda Pinkett Smith, Kathryn Hahn and more.
The final weekend newcomer includes Lionsgate’s thriller Nerve – starring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco. The film, which is expected to gross $15 million over its five-day debut, follows the duo as they get sucked into a dangerous modern game of truth or dare.
