‘Angry Birds’ Movie Cast Revealed

Sony Pictures and Rovio announced the cast list for the upcoming animated film Angry Birds Wednesday, and Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph and Peter Dinklage are set to star.

Sudeikis will voice Red, the leader of the flock, while Dinklage will portray the Mighty Eagle, Rudolph will play Matilda, and Hader will take on the role of a pig.

The film will also feature the voice talents of Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Keegan-Michael Key, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell and Danielle Brooks. Latin artist Romeo Santos will also be a part of the film, as well as YouTube stars Smosh (Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla).

“I’m extremely proud of this cast,” producer John Cohen stated. “Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent — these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we’re thrilled to have them all on board.”

Sony first revealed the casting news to the mobile gaming app’s users .

“With two and a half billion gamers around the world, Angry Birds is one of those brands that can drive massive fan engagement,” Dwight Caines, president of theatrical marketing for Sony Pictures, said. “That’s why we wanted to bring this unlock to the fans first. Our filmmakers are cooking up a hilarious movie, and we know these fans can’t wait to see how they’re going to bring the Angry Birds’ story to life on the big screen of movie theaters.”

Angry Birds, directed by Feral Reilly and Clay Kaytis, is slated to hit theaters July 1, 2016.
