Rovio Entertainment announced today that an ‘Angry Birds’ feature film is in the works. The upcoming film is scheduled to be released in theaters during the summer of 2016.
‘Angry Birds’ the movie will be a computer-generated/animated 3D film. Rovio will produce and finance the film themselves so they can retain “full creative control.”
It has been three years since the first ‘Angry Birds’ game was launched in 2009. The game has become one of the most successful ever with over 1 billion downloads sold.
Rovio brought on “Despicable Me” producer John Cohen and David Maisel, former chairman of Marvel Studios and executive producer of “Iron Man”, to produce for the upcoming ‘Angry Birds’ film.
Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio Entertainment said he is delighted to have John Cohen join the “flock”.
“With John’s hands-on producer background and David’s expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system.” Hed stated.
‘Angry Birds’ will launch onto a screen near you in 2016!
