In A Dog’s Purpose, Josh Gad voices a dog who is reincarnated multiple times and ponders the meaning of his existence.
The first trailer for the comedy film was released Friday on National Dog Day and shows Gad’s character first as a dog named Bailey. When Bailey passes away, the dog then finds life again as another dog, a female German shepherd who is a K-9. The dog is then shown living as other dogs with various owners throughout the years.
“What is the meaning of life … and why does food taste so much better in the trash?” the dog wonders.
Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, Britt Robertson, KJ Apa, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz and Pooch Hall also star in the film, which was directed by Lasse Hallstrom. The film is based off of the 2010 novel of the same name by W. Bruce Cameron.
