According to Variety, 20th Century Fox will fund James Cameron’s next two Avatar movies with a secured fund of $400 million.
Avatar 2 and Avatar 3’s funding was arranged by Chip Seelig (Dune Management), who brought another $400 million to the studio back in 2005. 20th Century Fox has set aside a secured fund of $400 million to produce the Avatar sequels. We do know that Cameron has been purchasing a lot of farm land in New Zealand to produce the film.
Cameron has also pushed back the release date to 2015, when a bunch of Blockbuster movies are being released. Star Wars, Avengers 2 and Justice League are all scheduled to be released in 2015.
The Avatar franchise is already known for bringing in enormous amounts of money. The first film earned over $2.7 billion at the box office so 20th Century Fox’s infusion of $400 million should be a great investment for the upcoming Avatar sequels.
