Death of Cirque du Soleil Performer Officially Ruled An Accident

The death of 31-year-old Cirque du Soleil performer Sarah Guillot-Guyard has been officially ruled an accident by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities announced in a statement on Wednesday that the French native died “from multiple blunt force trauma suffered when she fell approximately 90 feet” during Saturday night’s performance of Ka at the MGM Grand. Guillot-Guyard reportedly slipped out of her safety harness during the show’s final scene and plummeted to an open pit out of the audience’s view.

The Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration is currently investigating the accident and an official report may take up to six months to complete.

“We are all completely devastated with this news,” Cirque du Soleil head honcho Guy Laliberte told the Las Vegas Sun. “Sassoon was an artist with the original cast of Ka since 2006 and has been an integral part of our Cirque du Soleil tight family. We are reminded, with great humility and respect, how extraordinary our artists are each and every night. Our focus now is to support each other as a family.”

Sarah Guyard-Guillot, also known as “Sassoon” by those close to her, leaves behind two young children. Her death was the Cirque du Soleil’s first in the company’s nearly 30-year history.
