Ashley Madison In Deep as Hackers Release Data

The Ashley Madison hackers have fulfilled their promise, as account details of 37 million users have been released on the web.

The hackers, calling themselves the Impact Team, threatened to take down Avid Life Media, owners of Ashley Madison and Established Men, last month if they didn’t comply to their requests. With Avid Life Media’s CTO Trevor Skyes saying the protection of personal information has been one of his biggest successes, the hackers answered back in a big way.

According to Wired , the hackers released a statement through the dark web.

The only way to see the released data is by decrypting over 9.7 gigabytes of users personal member accounts and credit card information.

The Impact Team have called themselves the “the moral judge, juror, and executioner, seeing fit to impose a personal notion of virtue on all of society.” Their purpose is to fight ALM for ruining the lives of innocent people who are trying to better their marriages.

While it looks like The Impact Team have pictured themselves as cyber Robin Hoods, their actions are still highly illegal. The FBI, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and local police are looking into the investigation as the story unfolds.
