Amusement Parks Finally Make A Return to Houston

Almost 10 years after the closing of Astroworld, a new theme park will finally open in Houston. Construction for the Grand Texas theme park and Big Rivers water park will begin early next year. The parks will be built on 70 acres off of Highway 242 and 59 in New Caney.

The Grand Texas theme park will have seven areas devoted to Lone Star history and culture.  At a press conference on Wednesday, theme park project leaders announced that the newly named “Grand Texas Sports and Entertainment District” will include an amphitheater, a “Downtown Texas” area with space for hotels and retail, an RV park, baseball fields and sports complex.

The long-awaited theme park will also create job opportunities for the local community.  In addition to seasonal and full-time workers, 900 workers will be needed for construction of the parks and Entertainment District.

Big Rivers Water Park is set to open in April 2015.  The Grand Texas Theme Park, and coming attractions, should open in late 2015.
