Record Sales Up First Time Since 2004

Record sales are FINALLY on the rebound!!! According to Nielsen Soundscan, record sales are up for the first time since 2004. In the first half of 2011 over 155 million albums have been sold.

As we all know, the record industry has been struggling immensely due to all the file-sharing services that originated from Napster. Yes, it may become clear that Sean Parker may not have crumbled the music industry after all.

Thanks to the mega-albums from Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Mumford and Sons the music industry is finally on an upward slope.

This is also the first year that not only one but two singles have sold over four million digital copies online, Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Mrs. Perry’s “E.T.”

So what are the top selling albums for the first half of 2011?

For the category of most albums sold the winners are as follow:

1.  “21” by Adele (Columbia)

2.  “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga (Def Jam/Interscope)

3.  “Sigh No More” by Mumford & Sons (Glassnote)

4.  “My Kinda Party” by Jason Aldean (Broken Bow)

5.  “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” by Bruno Mars (Atlantic)
