Pop legend Prince has come out to say that he will no longer record new music until online piracy is subdued. “The Artist” told The Guardian reporter Dorian Lynskey that the music industry has changed and the only people making money now are the phone companies. “I’m supposed to go to the White House to talk about copyright protection.” says Prince. “It’s like the gold rush out there. Or a carjacking. There’s no boundaries.”
This is not the first time Prince has been an activist against online publication of his material. In 2007 Prince threatened to sue thousands of fans for copyright infringement and to shutdown three of his biggest fansites. The singer is known to personally monitor the internet from his home to censor any unofficial use of his work.
For a guy who has made over $250 million dollars (CelebrityNetworth) in the recording industry, what are your opinions on Prince’s views of ‘copyright infringement’?
