‘The Girl on the Train’: Emily Blunt Talks the ‘Confusing and Eerie’ Story

This weekend, The Girl on the Train rolled into theaters. The mystery thriller, based on the 2015 novel by Paula Hawkins, stars Emily Blunt as a recently divorced alcoholic who fantasizes about the relationship of a couple whose home she passes by on her daily commute by train. But one day, she witnesses something at their home and becomes part of a missing persons investigation.

“Well, it is a complicated story. It’s…confusing and eerie,” Blunt told BackstageOL’s Dave Morales of the film. “And it’s told from so many different perspectives, and so you are kept on the edge of your seat as to what really went on. But at the core of it, the draw for me, is that fact that your protagonist is a blackout alcoholic, and therefore, so unreliable and…the only witness in this potential crime. [It’s] just very unusual to have three very multi-faceted, interesting roles for women.”

The Girl on the Train is currently in theaters. It also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Édgar Ramírez and Lisa Kudrow.
