Spawning dozens of video game and movie sequels, there is no denying Resident Evil’s global success. Now the beloved series is taking a stab at the streaming world.
Making its way to Netflix Thursday, July 14th, Resident Evil star Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker. Fans of the series will recognize that name as a classic Resident Evil villain.
Lance Reddick sat down with BackstageOL to talk bad guys, video games, and what drew him to the role. Reddick was first introduced to the franchise after watching a few of the Milla Jovovich sequels late at night.

“When this project first came to me, I still was not even aware that this was all based on a huge video game franchise,” commented Reddick. “What really drew me to the project was what was on the page. I had the good fortune of being able to read the script of the first seven episodes even before I even met on the project.”
When describing what “got him” on the project, Reddick teases that he simply can not talk about it because it would be a spoiler.
“Part of what gets me I can’t talk about because it’s a spoiler but getting to do really cool action, the scenes with my daughters, especially the really dramatic scenes and working with Paola Núñez.” The actor praised Núñez’s work on the series stating “She is phenomenal and wonderfully sinister and viciously focus.”
It’s about the Monsters

The series bounces back between timelines with Reddick’s character in the past timeline (2022) and his daughters in the present timeline (2036). While he did miss out on acting in the post-apocalyptic timeline, Reddick did enjoy experiencing it as a viewer.
“Watching the show, I love that stuff…so actually getting to see all the action and Ella’s incredible performance, how the plot twist and how incredibly scary and gross those monsters are, it’s great!” added Reddick.
And although his character doesn’t run around in the future battling zombies, Reddick did note that his character does have a signature prop with him at all times.
“I wasn’t in the future so I didn’t get to hold a lot of guns and maces and chainsaws so my biggest props were stuff from the laboratory and this pen,” remarked Reddick.
“You might miss it the first time you watch it but it’s kind of a signature character thing for Albert in the show, it’s this pen that he constantly has with him and they make sure it is in every shot.”
