Critics are hailing the horror auteur for being the modern day Hitchcock.
Comedian-turned-director Jordan Peele, who brought us 2017’s terrifying thriller Get Out and this week’s most anticipated newcomer (and doppelgänger nightmare) Us, is being compared to one of the most iconic filmmakers in the history of cinema: Alfred Hitchcock.
The new horror film recently debuted at the SXSW film festival in Austin, Texas last week (March 8), when critics and fans galore praised the director with rapturous reviews, calling him the new master of suspense.
“He’s kind of a creep,” Peele bluntly said in regards to the Hitchcock analogy. “Of course, on the artistic level, I love being compared to the man who brought me Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo… he’s the greatest.”
Peele’s second feature film, about a family who find themselves the targets to evil doppelgängers, stars Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, Black Panther‘s Winston Duke, and The Handmaid’s Tale actress Elisabeth Moss.
Us hits theaters on March 22, 2019. Check out the full interview with the director below.
