The Magnificent Seven, a remake of the 1960 western of the same name, brings together a large cast that includes Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, Haley Bennett and Peter Sarsgaard. In the film set in the years following the Civil War, seven outlaws join together to protect a town from the control of an industrialist.
BackstageOL’s Dave Morales caught up with Hawke and Byung-hun, who star as a sharpshooter and an assassin respectively, to find out what it was like make a western, which included some horseback riding.
“I’d ridden a horse at camp and stuff, but not seriously,” Hawke revealed. “So the fun for me was riding around and getting better at horse riding.”
“I used to do the horse riding in Korea, but it was a little bit different, the way of riding,” Byung-hun added. “So I [needed] to learn a little bit more here.”
