Scarlett Johansson and Tori Kelly described the joy they felt after filming Illumination’s musical sequel Sing 2 in our latest interview with Dave Morales.
About ‘Sing 2’
In the uplifting and comical continuation of Sing (2016), Buster Moon and his cast of underdogs take their talents to new limits. However, potential competition stands in their way. Johansson voices Ash, the punk rock porcupine while Kelly voices Meena, the sweet and soft-spoken elephant. With a unique soundtrack and wholesome storyline, this family film will bring smiles across all faces.
“I loved watching them get so excited about it. It’s the best thing ever,” Kelly said after referring to her family’s reaction to the film. “Seeing the joy on their faces is just so great. But then also the adults in my life, including me, they just love this movie too. There’s just something that came together and it’s just such a simple concept. I don’t know how they did it, but everyone loves it. It’s awesome to be a part of it.”
How ‘Sing 2’ has Impacted the Younger Generation
The special thing about Sing 2is that young children can experience the universal opportunity of growing up watching a specific movie series. For Johansson’s daughter, she got just that. “I remember when this movie came out, she was probably four maybe. Kids were crazy about it and it was everywhere,” Johansson said. “She’s grown up with this film in the same way that I grew up with the Disney films like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. That was my generation and now her generation has this.”
Both Johansson and Kelly agreed that Sing is loved by all and have no doubts that the sequel will be loved too. “It’s such a great, uplifting movie. Garth [director] made such a cool family film and even the soundtrack is so playful and rock and roll. It’s very unique,” Johansson added.
Sing 2 is officially out in theaters and is produced by Illumination Entertainment. The film is also distributed by Universal Pictures.
