Wii U Sells 400,000 Units During First Week Of Sales In US

Did you decide to skip Black Friday and wait to buy the new Nintendo console ‘Wii U’ later this week?  If you’re having trouble getting a hold of one it’s because they essentially ‘sold out’ at retailers!

Nintendo claims to have sold more than 400,000 units of the new ‘Wii U’ in its first week of sales in the United States.  Nintendo of America’s president, Reggie Fils-Aime, says the console is currently sold out at retailers and they are working frantically to replenish stock.

Fils-Aime mentioned that “retailers are also doing their best to get the product to store shelves. But as soon as product hits retail, they’re selling out immediately.”

The original Wii sold around 475,000 in its first eight days on sale in November 2006.  However, Fils-Aime doesn’t expect stock shortages to reach the levels faced by the Wii when it was released.

“We’ve certainly learned many lessons from that and we are replenishing retailers more quickly this time around,” he said.

Keep a look out for new shipments of Wii U’s to arrive at retailers soon.
