Playstation 4 Sales Top 6 Million

Worldwide sales for Sony’s Playstation 4 has topped more than 6 million units. The company was targeting a 5 million worldwide sales unit by the end of March.

The PS4 was launched in November 2013 to the US, Europe and Australia, just in time for the 2013 holidays.  The eighth generation console made its debut in Japan less than two weeks ago.

Sony reported a “dramatic increase” in the amount of PS4 owners that have signed up for Sony’s Playstation Plus online membership. According to the manufacturer, the PS app has been downloaded over 3.6 million times.

The PS4 outsold both Microsoft’s Xbox One and Nintendo’s Wii U, becoming the best-selling piece of video game hardware in January, according to research firm NPD Group.
