Nintendo finally announced its long-rumored newest Switch model called the Nintendo Switch OLED. The new OLED model will be released on October 8 and will cost $350 USD.

The new model will feature a larger screen than previous models. It will have a 7 inch 720p OLED display and output 1080p in docked mode. This unfortunately means it will not support 4k as rumors suggested.

While the overall look of the Switch will not change much, the new model does feature a wider adjustable base stand, enhanced audio, a wired LAN port in the dock, and 64GB of internal storage.

Sadly the new model will not improve performance or battery life as previous reports suggested. The display remains at 12180×720 resolution and the battery life also remains the same at 4.5 – 9 hours of estimated use.

The new OLED model will come in two different color options: one with a white dock and white Joy-cons, and the other with a black dock and red and blue Joy-cons.

“The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode, ” said Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America.

“With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether its’s Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite. ”

In the past two years, The Nintendo Switch has been sitting on top of the US console sales charts. With lifetime sales of the Switch at 84.59 million units since its release in 2017.

With the new Switch sharing the same release date (October 8) as Metroid Dread, there is a possibility of a bundle. However, no bundles have been announced as of yet.

Metroid Dread, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, and Splatoon 3 were all featured in the announcement trailer. All the footage appeared to be previously seen footage, used in announcement trailers.

The Nintendo official website has the full specs of the new model and allows you to compare it to previous models.
