The next generation of Battlefield is here and looks to challenge the graphical capabilities of the current generation of consoles. Battlefield 2042 will feature 128-player battles, seven maps, introduce four new specialist classes, and seasonal content.
With Playstation 4 and Xbox One receiving their own versions of the game, featuring smaller maps and capping battles to 64 players.
Developer DICE is steering the franchise towards a new direction, focused mainly on multiplayer. With the rise of battle royals, it only seemed inevitable that some version of that game mode would come to Battlefield.
The game will not feature a traditional single-player campaign but instead opt to reveal its narrative storyline through multiplayer modes and real-time events, similar to that of Call of Duty: Warzone.
The first year of the game will be divided into four seasons, featuring four battle passes that include free and premium tiers.
Fans of the franchise will not only be battling each other on maps but the maps themselves. Dynamic weather events such as tornadoes and sandstorms (that can block out the sun) will cause destruction, change the maps, and how players claim victory.
Battlefield 2042 will come to Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, Windows PC on Oct. 22, with Playstation 4 and Xbox One receiving their own versions of the game the same day.
