First off, the new Foster The People album “Torches” is awesome.
I’ve been jamming it nonstop since I got it. With the perfect summertime anthem “Pumped Up Kicks”, “Torches” delivers a solid collection of tunes that not only are catchy but also addictive.
Foster the People is made up of Mark Foster who is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. Mark met Cubbie Fink and Mark Ponitus through mutual friends in the LA music scene.
The band released a 3 song EP that contained the catchy “Pumped Up Kicks” which sent the band into viral superstardom with YouTube plays into the millions. Now with sold out shows and the release of the full length album, Foster The People are having a blast.
BackstageOL met up with the guys after their recent packed concert in Houston, Texas. You can tell the band is having a great time and is really excited their brand of music has caught the attention of a wide demographic of fans. Yes, there were glowsticks in the audience, but there were also music lovers well into their 20’s, 30’s and older. The constant comment song after song was “wow”.
Some favorite tracks on “Torches” include the aforementioned “Pumped Up Kicks”. Others are “Houdini”, “Helena Beat”, “Miss You” and “Warrant”.
The guys promised us a full interview next time we see them. I did get a chance to ask Mark Foster if the rumors were true that he co-wrote “Rise Above” from the Broadway musical “Spider-Man:Turn Off the Dark” with Bono and The Edge from U2. A song they recently performed on American Idol. Foster confirmed that he co-wrote the tune with a smile. He also mentioned he has yet to meet Bono and The Edge. He’s been too busy rising with his band.
