While not officially endorsed by the Michael Jackson estate, the long-planned tribute concert honoring the King of Pop WILL happen October 8, 2011 at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
The all star lineup includes Cee Lo Green (he is EVERYWHERE these days), Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis, Smokey Robinson and Alien Ant Farm, who had a hit with a rocked up version of “Smooth Criminal”.
The event is officially called “Michael Forever:The Tribute Concert.”
Jackson brothers Randy and Jermaine have criticized the show saying it is inapproriate as it will conflict with the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael’s doctor.
“We want to make clear that this does not reflect the position of the entire family,” the two said in a joint statement. “While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death.”
Proceeds from the concert are expected to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles and the Prince’s Trust.
