After Johnny Cash, there is really only one other music “giant” that I consider an inspiration for my musical instincts.
It’s a little known fact…haven’t really shared with a lot of people outside of immediate family, but Glen is the “man” in my eyes.
I could write about what a horrible thing Alzheimers disease is (and believe me, I will) but this piece is about the musician, the artist, the guy behind the tunes of “Galveston” and the song that hooked me and so many others- “Rhinestone Cowboy”.
His managers have released a statement saying ““It (Alzheimers)basically affects his short term memory.
“Glen is still able to sing, play and perform in the same professional manner that he always has. He will be doing the same top notch show that his fans have come to expect.”
According to Campbell’s wife Kim, ““Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer, but if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn’t want people to think, ‘What’s the matter with him? Is he drunk?’”
“I still love making music,” says Campbell. “And I still love performing for my fans. I’d like to thank them for sticking with me through thick and thin.”
Glen Campbell: The Goodbye Tour will see Glen supported by his two daughters and his son’s band.
The tour coincides with the release of his final studio album, Ghost on the Canvas which is being released August 30.
BackstageOL has a request in for up to the minute tour information and as soon as we receive it, it will be posted here.
I saw a date in Biloxi, MS that Glen is playing in July. I’ll be there.
