Tom Hanks to Make Broadway Debut in ‘Lucky Guy’

Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks will make his debut on Broadway in March in the world premier production of Nora Ephron’s ‘Lucky Guy’.  ‘Lucky Guy’ written by Nora Ephron, who just passed away in June, will be produced by Colin Callender (a former president of HBO Films) and directed by George C. Wolfe (Tony Award Winner).  Tom Hanks will star in it playing the role of New York tabloid columnist Mike McAlary.

Tom is no stranger to Nora Ephron, he worked with her on “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail”.  Tom and Nora had already previously talked about him starring in her Broadway show “Lucky Guy” before she passed away. Nora worked and wrote this this bio-drama for years.

Tom’s character Mike McAlary was one of the most popular newspaper writers in New York City, making history in the 1980’s and 90’s.  McAlary covered stories from police scandals to crimes, and he is most famously known for the Abner Louima brutality case, which won him the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for commentary.  McAlary passed away in 1998 to colon cancer.

Producers of the show say that “Lucky Guy” is about “the scandal- and graffiti-ridden New York of the 1980s, as told through the story of the charismatic and controversial tabloid columnist Mike McAlary.”

‘Lucky Guy’ will play at Broadhurst Theater, and tickets will be on sale through May 19th.
