The Avengers Assemble To Stop Trump In ‘Save The Day’ Voting Spot

What happens when Joss Whedon assembles a few superhero friends as part of a super PAC campaign to get Americans out to vote on Election Day? How about a three-minute star-studded public service announcement that features as many celebrities as Stanley Kramer’s It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Now back on Twitter, Whedon posted this message regarding the launch of his spot (titled “Important”) as part of SaveTheDay.Vote.

The spot features the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Julianne Moore, Stanley Tucci, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Whedon’s old pal and Firefly star Nathan Fillion. While the ad campaign makes no mention of either presidential candidate, there is a not-to-subtle hint that it is anti-Donald Trump. Especially when Leslie Odom Jr. asks the question, “Do we want to give nuclear weapons to a man whose signature move is firing things?” Ouch.

In a BuzzFeed interview, Joss Whedon explained how he was able to get all these stars onboard for the Save The Day PSA.

“There is almost nobody that I wouldn’t approach to say, ‘If you can pitch in, do it now,’” he said. “It was pretty much the same spiel to everybody: ‘Doing a voting PSA to help get out the vote and stop orange Muppet Hitler.’”
