For the first time ever, Queen Elizabeth II has fallen out of the list of the top 300 richest people in Britain.
Back in 1989, the Queen took the top spot on The Sunday Times’ very first list of the richest people in Britain with a total net worth of £5.2 billion. This year, she comes in at No. 302 with a total net worth of £340 million due in part to the increase of billionaires in the country.
Businessman Len Blavatnik, who has invested in various industries including oil, petrochemicals and media, topped the list this year with a net worth of £13.17 billion.
Collectively, the 1,000 richest people in Britain are worth about £540 billion, an increase of 112 percent over 2009’s total of £258 billion.
Paul McCartney, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and U2 nabbed the top three spots of the richest musicians in Britain with £730 million, £650 million and £431 million respectively. These amounts put all of them ahead of the Queen in the rankings.
