One Direction has become a part of the Guinness World Records 2015 book thanks to the success of their first three albums. The British band is the only act in U.S. history to have their first three albums debut at the top of the Billboard 200.
“This really is one of our proudest moments, both for us and our incredible fans,” Niall Horan said. “Whenever we talk about it we always say how cool it is that we did it first, how sick is that?!”
Their first album, Up All Night, hit No. 1 in 2011, followed by their second release Take Me Home later that year. Their third record Midnight Memories topped the chart when it hit stores last December. It sold one million copies in the first five weeks.
As for other records set, Miley Cyrus has become the “Most searched-for Pop Star on the Internet,” while Katy Perry, who has 52,463,838 followers on Twitter, became the “Musician with the most Twitter followers.” Shakira takes the title of being the “Most ‘liked’ person on Facebook” with over 100 million “likes.”
Metallica also had a stunning achievement in the past year by becoming the first and only band to have performed a concert on all seven continents. The heavy metal band played a show in Antarctica last December for “300 very curious penguins,” according to lead singer James Hetfield.
Game of Thrones was crowned with the title of “Most pirated TV program.” The show is downloaded an average of 5,900,000 times per episode.
Some other highlights of entertainment records set include Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence becoming the “Highest-grossing action movie heroine” due to the success of The Hunger Games franchise and Frozen becoming the “Highest box office film gross for an animation,” after earning over $1 billion worldwide.
The Guinness World Records 2015 book will be released September 10.
