Medal of Honor Petition Launches for Chris Kyle

Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared February 2nd as “Chris Kyle Day” honoring the late Navy SEAL.

Kyle, a native Texan from Odessa, and Chad Littlefield were both fatally shot on February 2, 2013 at Rough Creek Ranch-Lodge-Resort, a North Texas gun range. They were shot by Eddie Ray Routh, a fellow veteran believed to have mental health issues.

Kyle, a retired Navy SEAL, is considered to be the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history. His legacy is portrayed by actor Bradley Cooper in American Sniper, a movie based on Kyle’s autobiography.

Governor Abbott decided to honor Kyle because “he’s an American hero.” The American public seems to agree after posting a petition on WhiteHouse.gov for Kyle to receive the Medal of Honor. As of of Monday morning, the petition has over 7,000 signatures and needs to reach the goal of 100,000 signatures by February 18, 2015 in order for the White House to consider it.
