At age 55, Forbes has named Madonna as the world’s top-earning celebrity with $125 million in earnings between June 2012 and June 2013
On Monday, Forbes released their ‘Celebrity 100 list’ for 2013 with Madonna taking the top spot. Her MDNA tour grossed an outstanding $305 million, but she also earned money through her clothing line, strong merchandise sales, fragrance and other investments. Despite her 12th studio album MDNA selling fewer than 1 million copies, her MDNA tour was her cash king, bringing in the most revenue for the singer last year.
According to Forbes, $125 million is the most money Madonna has earned in her four-decade-long career.
“Madonna’s success, at age 55, just goes to show the incredible power of a successful music career,” Forbes reporter Dorothy Pomerantz said, “Especially with this generations competition, Lady Gaga, who is said to be copying Madonnas career moves and trying to steal her spotlight.”
Second runner up behind Madonna is director Steven Spielberg, with earnings of $100 million for the year. Simon Cowell tied with “50 Shades of Grey” author E.L. James, and satellite radio host Howard Stern for third place with earnings of $95 million.
