The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced today that they are expecting their first child.
“The queen, the duke of Edinburgh, the prince of Wales, the duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news,” the palace released in an official statement.
The news was announced after Kate was admitted into the King Edward VII Hospital in London after suffering from a severe form of morning sickness called Hyperemesis Gravidarum.
Kate is expected to stay in the hospital for the next few days “and will require a period of rest thereafter,” the palace’s statement read. The pregnancy is still in its “very early stages.”
When the child is born it will be third in line for succession of the throne after it’s grandfather Prince Charles and father Prince William.
“I’m delighted by the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby,” British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted. “They will make wonderful parents.”
