Former reality TV star Kate Gosselin is filing a lawsuit against her ex-husband Jon, accusing him of stealing her hard drive and hacking into her phone and computer to find material for a tell-all book.
According to the federal lawsuit, Jon Gosselin accessed email, bank accounts, and other private information in order to write a book called “Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World.”
The book, published in 2012, was written by Jon Gosselin’s friend, tabloid writer Robert Huffman. However, the book was pulled off the market after two days since the information was illegally obtained, the lawsuit stated.
“Jon violated a federal anti-hacking statute in order to publish salacious, scandalous and defamatory information about Kate,” said her lawyer A. Jordan Rushie. “It’s damaged her reputation.”
Jon and Kate Gosselin both starred in TLC’s reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8 that showed their lives raising their twins and sextuplets. They separated in 2009 and later divorced. The series changed its name to Kate Plus 8 and was cancelled in 2011.
Kate Gosselin currently lives in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, where she now runs a coupon website. Jon Gosselin lives in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.
Jon Gosselin is accused of identity theft, wiretapping, and invasion of privacy in the lawsuit. His lawyer did not immediately return a message seeking a comment.
