Justin Bieber is going to be out of this world, literally! The 19-year-old star has signed up to take a ride to space on Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic. Bieber is one of the few celebrities who has paid a deposit of $250,000 to join this space ride. Other celebrities joining Bieber on this flight include his manager, Scooter Braun, Ashton Kutcher and Leonardo DiCaprio.
At the age of 19, $250,000 is actually pocket change to Bieber, whose net worth is estimated at $110 million, thanks to the success of his songs and devoted fans, Beliebers.
“Great to hear @justinbieber & @scooterbraun are latest @virgingalactic future astronauts. Congrats, see you up there!” Sir Richard Branson tweeted from his official Twitter account.
This space ride will send passengers 62 miles in altitude, which marks the Karman line, or “internationally accepted boundary of outer space.” NBC News said that, “At that height, passengers would feel a few minutes of weightlessness, get a view of the curving Earth beneath a black sky, and then experience a roller-coaster ride back down to a runway landing.”
According to U.K.’s Daily Mail, “SpaceShipTwo went through its first supersonic, rocket-powered flight test in California in April, and it’s expected to begin commercial operations at Spaceport America in New Mexico as early as next year.”
