Justin Bieber was arrested Thursday morning on charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license after he was caught street racing by Miami Beach police.
The arrest occurred after a Miami Beach officer noticed two vehicles racing through a residential neighborhood last night: a red Ferrari and a yellow Lamborghini. The officer subsequently pulled over the Lamborghini to find a belligerently drunk Bieber behind the wheel. According to Miami Beach Police, the two vehicles were racing at speeds between 55 to 60 mph in a 30 mph zone.
“[Justin] was not cooperating with the officer’s instructions,” Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez told reporters on Thursday. “At first, he was a little belligerent, using some choice words questioning why he was being stopped and why the officer was even questioning him.”
“When he opened up the window and confronted Mr. Bieber, he smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage,” Martinez added. Since the officer believed Bieber may have been impaired, he made the pop star undergo a sobriety test.
“[Bieber] made some statements that he had consumed some alcohol, and that he had been smoking marijuana and consumed some prescription medication,” says Martinez.
After failing the sobriety test, Bieber was arrested and booked into a Miami jail.
The street racing appeared to have been planned. “[Two SUVs] actually blocked the traffic at 26th and Pine Street so that they could race on Pine Street, almost making it like a makeshift race track,” Martinez added. Justin’s 38-year-old father, Jeremy Bieber, was reportedly in one of the SUVs blocking traffic.
As for the driver of the Ferrari, Khalil Amir Sharieff was arrested and booked on a DUI charge. He is reportedly an “associate of Bieber.”
After meeting with a judge this afternoon, Justin Bieber’s bond was set at $2,500.
