Johnny Depp Reveals He’s “Blind As A Bat”

Johnny Depp has revealed in a recent interview that he is as “blind as a bat.”

The Lone Ranger star told Rolling Stone that he is almost completely blind in his left eye and that the problem cannot be corrected.  In addition to problems with his left eye, he is near-sighted in his right eye and heavily relies on prescription glasses in order to see.

After all these years we just thought Depp was being stylish with his glasses.

The 50-year-old actor told the magazine, ‘Everything is just very, very blurry. I’ve never had proper vision.”  Apparently, if Depp is not wearing his glasses he can only see a few inches from his face.  This gives him a whole new level of respect for acting in roles such as Capt. Jack Sparrow, Mad Matter and Edward Scissorhands since he was “blind as a bat,” according to Johnny, during filming.

In addition to revealing details about his poor eyesight, Depp told Rolling Stone that on numerous occasions he has considered retiring from acting.

“I think while I’ve got the opportunity and the desire and the creative spark to do the things that I can do right now, I should do them,” Depp tells Rolling Stone.  “And then, at a certain point, just take it down to the bare minimum and concentrate on, I guess, living life. Really living life. And going somewhere where you don’t have to be on the run, or sneak in through the kitchen or the underground labyrinth of the hotel. At a certain point, when you get old enough or get a few brain cells back, you realize that, on some level, you lived a life of a fugitive.”

Johnny Depp can be seen on the big screen next starring as Tonto alongside Armie Hammer in Disney’s The Lone Ranger, in theaters Wednesday, July 3rd.
