Rivers, 81, was reportedly suffering complications during an outpatient surgery. She had been undergoing a throat operation on her vocal chords when a 911 call was placed describing a person who was either in cardiac or respiratory arrest, TMZ first reported.
Her daughter and co-star, Melissa Rivers, 46, and Melissa’s son, Cooper, 13, rushed to the city to be by Joan’s side.
“This was not major surgery,” a source said to E! Online, adding that Joan was sedated while undergoing the operation and that it is unclear what medication was used.
Recently, the Fashion Police host has been busy promoting her new book, “Diary of a Mad Diva.”
