Bruce Willis To Star in Broadway Adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Misery’

Bruce Willis will soon be appearing on the Great White Way.

Willis will star in Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures’ stage adaptation of Stephen King’s 1987 novel Misery with Broadway veteran Elizabeth Marvel. Oscar winner William Goldman, who penned the script for Rob Reiner’s 1990 film version of the novel starring Kathy Bates and James Caan, wrote the play.

Willis will portray successful novelist Paul Sheldon who is rescued from a car crash by his biggest fan, Annie Wilkes (Marvel). Wilkes then holds him captive after discovering he plans to kill off her favorite character, Misery Chastain.

Will Frears will direct the play, which had its world premiere at Bucks County Playhouse in the fall of 2012. Misery is set to have a limited run this fall on Broadway and will be co-produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures along with Castle Rock Entertainment and Raymond Wu.

The last time Willis appeared in a stage production in New York was in 1983 when he served as the understudy for Ed Harris in the off-Broadway show Fool for Love. Misery will mark his official Broadway debut.
