Angelina Jolie has hinted that her role as Cleopatra may be her final role as an actress.
During a press conference for Maleficent, the actress revealed that she would like to give up acting in order to focus on directing and her humanitarian work as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
“I’ve had a wonderful career and I’m very happy to have had all the opportunities to tell the stories and work for as long as I have,” said the 37-year-old.
She continued, “I’m sure there will be more films but I am happy I am able to be selective and have fun with characters like this but I would like to focus on writing and directing and above all I would like to focus more on my work with the UN and with PSVI [Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative].”
Speaking on her role as the Egyptian queen Cleopatra, Jolie stated, “She’s complicated, its’ complicated to get this one right. I think we’re getting there. It’s getting close. I imagine the preparation for it is going to be big. It’s one of those that you think maybe that’s the one you put everything into and that’s where you end it, that’s where you finish- in a great way. What could you do beyond that one?
Currently, Jolie is starring as Maleficent in Disney’s Maleficent, which tells the story of the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty for the point of view of the titular villain, portrayed by Jolie.
