Amy Winehouse Play Canceled Following Father’s Objections

“Amy”, a play that would have portrayed the life and musical career of the late Amy Winehouse, has now been cancelled by her father.

Originally, the Winehouse family confirmed to BBC that they were not involved in the production of “Amy” but now that seems not to be the case.  The Associated Press reported on Monday that Winehouse’s father, Mitch, halted production of the play by refusing to give permission to use the British singer’s music as well as photographs of her.

It had been reported that the theater was granted a permit to perform the play by Danish copyright agency Koda.

“Amy” was going to be based on the late singer’s struggle as a young artist through her success as a worldwide sensation.

The production was scheduled to start performances on Jan. 30 at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen, Denmark.  The theater’s website states that the play has been cancelled but does not provide any additional information.
