The 70th annual Tony Awards, hosted by James Corden, took place Sunday night. The telecast was dedicated those lost and affected by the Orlando shooting that occurred early Sunday.
“On behalf of the whole theater community, our hearts go out to all of those affected by this atrocity. Your tragedy is our tragedy,” Corden stated at the top of the show. “Theater is a place where every race, creed, sexuality and gender is equal, is embraced and is loved. Hate will never win. Together we have to make sure of that. Tonight’s show stands as a symbol and a celebration of that principal.”
The night featured plenty of performances amidst the awards. Hamilton was the biggest winner of the night, winning eleven of the record-breaking sixteen awards it was nominated for, including Best Musical. The cast of the smash-hit musical opened and closed the show.
