Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith is looking to fill Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s role as the leading lady. Sources confirmed that the Fleabag Emmy winner departed from the project due to creative differences with co-star/executive producer Donald Glover according to Variety.

The series is based on Doug Liman’s feature film that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in 2005. In the film, a married couple discover they are spies hired to assassinate one another. Evidently, the joint production between New Regency and Amazon remain on track for its 2022 debut.

Before her departure, Waller-Bridge was set to star and executive produce the series beside Glover. The duo announced the project last year via a collaborated Instagram post. In the post, Waller-Bridge mimicked Jolie’s original pose on the original film poster while Glover danced. This had the internet buzzing.
Waller-Bridge and Glover’s History
Waller-Bridge and Glover first worked together on Solo: A Star Wars Story. Additionally, Waller-Bridge is currently working on Indiana Jones 5, and is executive producing the final season of Killing Eve. She also contributed to No Time to Die, the latest Bond film. Furthermore, co-star Glover is wrapping up the third season of FX’s Atlanta. He has also impressively written all scripts for the upcoming fourth season that is now in production.
Glover signed an overall deal with Amazon back in February that kickstarted the project Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Although his vision to create the series with his fellow co-star fell through, her role will be re-casted. Apparently, the duo remains on good terms with her friendly departure. Waller-Bridge continues to develop projects at Amazon.
