A victim of the tragic Astroworld Festival is suing festival founder and rapper Travis Scott, hip-hop artist Drake and the event’s promoter Live Nation for their involvement in the night that left eight dead and hundreds injured, reports Daily Mail’s Kayla Brantley.
Kristian Paredes, 23, is behind the million-dollar lawsuit after leaving NRG Stadium on Friday “severely injured,” including some irreversible damage. The complaint accuses the musicians, Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation of negligence.
Diving deeper into each party’s blame, the plaintiff accuses the rappers of “help[ing] incite the crowd” and performing through the pandemonium. Once the chaos grew too big, many concertgoers “begged security guards hired by Live Nation Entertainment for help, but were ignored.”
Thomas J. Henry, Paredes’ attorney, doubled down on who’s to blame for the tragedy: “There is every indication that the performers, organizers, and venue were not only aware of the hectic crowd but also that injuries and potential deaths may have occurred. Still, they decided to put profits over their attendees and allowed the deadly show to go on.”
Fans beg for show to be stopped
A series of horrifying videos circulating online support the lawsuit’s claims. A wave of attendees was captured beginning a “Stop the show!” chant in between songs, only to be drowned out by Travis Scott. Others go as far as climbing a structure to beg some of the employees to stop the concert.
More lawsuits incoming
Paredes’ complaint is just one of many expected to reach Travis Scott and the event’s organizers. In fact, another festivalgoer, Manuel Souza, sued the rapper, Live Nation and organizer ScoreMore over the same event on Saturday, according to Billboard’s Bill Donahue. The victim’s attorney, Steve Kherkher, blames the accused for “fail[ing] to properly plan and conduct the concert in a safe manner.”
