Mixtape is available for streaming on Netflix, set in 1999 and starring Gemma Brooke Allen as 12-year-old Beverly Moody who finds a mixtape made by her late parents titled Love Riot. She hopes to connect to her parents by listening to the songs that meant the most to them.
Allen and other kids her age live in a time where the mixtape has come and gone in pop culture. She received a crash course from her parents about the cultural artifact, gaining a sense of the importance those compact cassettes contained.
Naturally, BackstageOL was curious as to who would be on her mixtape. Bowen suggests Lil Nas X, to which Allen agreed, also adding the likes of Mariah Carey and Glass Animals.
