Staples Center Becomes Crypto.com Arena

The home for the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Kings and Sparks is being rebranded from the Staples Center to Crypto.com Arena starting Christmas Day, according to a press release.

“Today Crypto.com, the world’s fastest-growing cryptocurrency platform, and AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company, have launched a historic, 20-year naming rights agreement that will rename the AEG-owned and operated STAPLES Center, one of the most iconic and globally recognized sports and entertainment arenas in the world.”

Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and Crypto.com plan to unveil a new logo as well as new internal signage within the arena when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Christmas Day. External signage won’t be changed until June 2022.

Staples has been one of the most illustrious sporting venues since its opening in 1999. The arena hosts over 240 “major high-profile events of national and international distinction,” including sports, concerts, award shows like the Grammys and all-star games from the NBA and NHL.

Crypto’s Growing Influence

“Known as the Creative Capital of the World, the city of Los Angeles and the people who call it home have always been pioneers, pushing the boundaries and innovating as the undeniable global leaders of culture and entertainment,” said Crypto.com Co-Founder and CEO, Kris Marszalek. “We’re very excited about partnering with AEG and investing long term in this city, starting with Crypto.com Arena in the heart of downtown, and using our platform in new and creative ways so that cryptocurrency can power the future of world class sports, entertainment and technology for fans in LA and around the world.”

Crypto.com was founded in 2016. It serves over 10 million customers and claims to be one of the fastest-growing crypto apps along with being a premier platform for the NFT marketplace.

The partnership with Staples Center is another example of crypto‘s growing influence, particularly in sports. Their global partnerships include UFC, F1, Paris Saint-Germain, the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens, esports team Fnatic, and Lega Serie A, the Italian Football league, Twitch Rivals and the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers.
