First Look at Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop

The live-action Netflix adaptation of Cowboy Bebop arrives on the streaming giant’s platform on November 19th.

Space. Western. Jazz. Corgi. Those four words highlight one of the most popular anime programs ever to arrive in the states, Cowboy Bebop. The sci-fi noir series debuted in 1999 at the turn of the century and has impacted fans ever since. The series follows a group of “bounty hunters” in the year 2071, in a broken future where surviving humans colonize space, and everyone can be bought for the right price.

It was announced in 2017 that a live-action series was on the way, but the information was scarce…until now.

Fast forward 4 years, on-set injuries, an elongated pandemic, and we are finally here. The Netflix adaptation will star John Cho (Searching, Star Trek), Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage), Alex Hassell (The Boys), and Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) will star as Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Vicious, and Faye Valentine. The original Japanese creator Shinichirō Watanabe is on board as a consultant as well as the anime’s original composer, Yoko Kanno.

Synopsis
COWBOY BEBOP is an action-packed space Western about three bounty hunters, aka “cowboys,” all trying to outrun the past. As different as they are deadly, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them.
