Black Widow star David Harbour joins MCU as Red Guardian

Black Widow star David Harbour joins Scarlett Johansson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Russian superhero Red Guardian.

David Harbour, aka Red Guardian in the new action-packed movie Black Widow, sits down with Dave Morales to discuss his experience on set.

A lot goes into making his Russian character come to life, Harbour explains the difficulty of mastering a Russian accent while filming, “There’s a lot of sounds in Russian that we don’t make in English, American dialect… it was actually really surprisingly hard,” he tells Morales.

“I only had a couple of weeks in pre-production to work on it and then throughout we kept at. We had the dialect coach there. I feel like I tried to do as best I could, but it’s definitely a tricky language,” he continues.

While conquering the accent took some time getting used to, loving his Red Guardian costume did not take any. “I loved it so much. It’s extremely well made. It’s really easy to move in, really easy to work with, the headpiece is all functional… even the details were so extraordinary,” he excitedly mentions.

He goes on to explain how his character’s suit includes detailed interior and comfortable fabric, unlike his co-star’s costume. “I think Scarlett’s suit is a bit more rigid in certain ways, but my suit, I could be in that all day,” Harbour says.

While expressing his love for these kinds of movies, the star discusses his unique bond to Marvel comics, “They’re American mythology I think it’s really fun. I love mythology, I’m just drawn to it and it’s drawn to me,” he adds.

Harbour’s excitement for his role and positive feedback about Marvel leaves the viewers wanting more. Even more so after Morales goes on to say that Harbour has a major hit on his hands.
