All I can say is welcome back, Debra Winger.
The three-time Oscar-nominated actress (An Officer and a Gentleman, Terms of Endearment, Shadowlands), and the subject of the 2002 documentary Searching for Debra Winger, is back on the big screen in a new dramedy set to open May 5, 2017. The Lovers is described as a “refreshing, funny look at love, fidelity, and family.” Winger and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright-cum-actor Tracy Letts (TV’s Homeland, Christine) are a long-married husband and wife. The honeymoon period is way past its expiration date and the two have grown dispassionate. They engage in their own affairs (literally) until something remarkable happens. The spark reignites and an impulsive romance between husband and wife complicates things with their “cheating” partners.
The Lovers is being distributed by A24 Films, the outfit responsible for such critically acclaimed films as Moonlight, Room and Ex Machina, and is written and directed by Azazel Jacobs, whose last feature was the 2011 release Terri starring John C. Reilly and Jacob Wysocki. Joining Winger and Letts as the adulterers are Aidan Gillen (Sing Street) and Melora Walters (Netflix’s The Ranch).
